“The Spanish Cycle” is a working title
for a composition project that I have
been working on for a while.

It began with three felted tapestries, made for me by my creative friend, Anne, with stage decoration in mind. I knew immediately that I would one day have to write music for these beautiful pieces.

Long after, I laid the tapestries out before me and began writing down ideas. My first instinct was to write a poem for each tapestry. It felt natural, and slowly the ideas began to unfold. I wanted to compose the music for piano, violin, cello, acoustic guitar, and voice.

I am now close to finishing three pieces of music — one for each tapestry. It has been, and continues to be, an exciting process. The intention is to shape it into a performance for churches and cultural venues.
